Interview
As a semester-long project we will construct our own class network via a series of interviews. Over the course of the term, each student will research a topic related to art and design online, then conduct an interview with a practicing designer, artist, and/or technologist whose work relates to that subject. In preparation for your interview, and as a way to help you locate your subject, you will give an informal proposal on your topic and potential interview subjects.
In addition to investigating a theme, consider the connection you are creating by conducting your interview. Yourself ↔ subject, CCA ↔ their organization, your practice ↔ your subject’s practice, etc. What are the implications of such connections, and what natural questions do they pose? What is your goal in creating this connection? What network do these fields of connections (personal, class-level, and institutional) create?
It is likely that you will need to locate a couple of potential subjects since you are reliant on their availability. For instance, if you were to research online communities you may propose to interview Taeyoon Choi who's practice looks into how care can be foregrounded in online communities, or Elliott Cost who creates alternative social media websites. If you want help brainstorming subjects to interview, please let chris know.
At the end of the semester you’ll publish your interviews as a markdown file which we'll add to a class publication. Additionally, this interview will act as inspiration for your final project, in which you'll respond to your interview with a webpage for a class intranet.
